As a proud Charlotte native and long-standing member of Skyla Federal Credit Union, I’ve had the privilege of serving on the Skyla Board of Directors for the past thirteen years. I am currently the Board Chair and have found the experience incredibly rewarding. I have served as Chair of the Nominating and Governance Committees, and I have served on the Foundation Committee and the Executive Committee for the past ten years. I will continue to work diligently to ensure that Skyla members have access to the best financial services and products available. With over 29 years of experience in non-profit management, I bring a unique perspective, offering leadership, creativity, and a strong commitment to financial stability and community engagement. As the current Executive Director of a non-profit organization, I manage operations, marketing, programming, fundraising, financial reporting, and board oversight. I take a proactive role in identifying community engagement opportunities and developing strategic funding plans that ensure long-term sustainability. I also support my board in implementing effective policies and achieving organizational goals. I am deeply committed to serving Skyla’s members and ensuring that our Credit Union continues to thrive in today’s ever-changing financial landscape.
Members are my first priority, and I have served on the Board for more than 20 years.
A transplant from Northern California, Whitni Wertz brings a diverse background in both the financial sector and leadership roles with a passion for community development. She began her career in the financial services industry with Wells Fargo, where she demonstrated a strong commitment to financial literacy, particularly for underserved communities. Selected as a member of a special task force, she focused on enhancing financial knowledge for small- to mid-sized businesses and individuals, helping to bridge the gap in financial access. Whitni later transitioned into a role at Otis, leading the Americas Skyrise team. This role afforded her the opportunity to collaborate on diverse teams to complete custom vertical transportation solutions for high-rise developments and modernizations. This was inclusive of landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Empire State Building in New York. Her style, which emphasizes inclusivity and innovation, helped foster a high-performance culture, earning her team a spot in the top 5 Gallup survey rankings within their organization. Whitni’s commitment to fostering belonging within organizations was further recognized when she received the Employee Resource Group Leader of the Year award. Her focus on community outreach, program and policy development were also recognized. An advocate for continuous learning and development, Whitni was selected to participate in the McKinsey Leadership Program. She is deeply committed to applying these learnings to make a difference in her community. She volunteers with several nonprofit and civic organizations. Some of her past and current involvement includes Good Friends Charlotte, the Association of Junior Leagues International, Safe Alliance, Skyla Credit Union, Arts and Science Council, Sugar Creek Charter School,Delta Sigma Theta and serving on the previous U.S. Attorney’s North Carolina Human Trafficking Task Force. Whitni holds an MBA and an MSW, with a specialized certification in financial literacy. In her personal time, she enjoys reading, the arts, and all things sports.
